What I am working on now:

AI Development

Enhancing Course Design with GPTs
I am currently lead a Development team as the Learning and Teaching Hub has built over 30+ tools and prototypes for course design. These tools have been used by Learning Designers with faculty to craft learning objectives, module sequences, assignments, rubrics, and other artifacts for course design based on evidence-based practices of instructional design. These tools are crafted as Toolkit for Instructional Designers and we adding to it regularly and looking to improve the cohesion and usability of these tools.

Development Process and Framework
To do this, we have developed a use-case storyboarding based development approach along with a structured prompting technique based on Mollick’s Prompting Structure, to rapidly develop, test, and improve our GPTs and other AI tools. Sue Huffman and I just received the OLC Accelerate 2024 Innovative Learning Environments and Technologies Best-in-Track award for our presentation, “AI Design Challenge: Make Your Own Instructional Design Tool!” where we presented this process. This has opened up some additional presentation/webinar opportunities.

Community of Practice and Design Sprint
I am also working leading a Community of Practice for the Fulton Schools of Engineering, where faculty and other educators are exploring the MyAIBuilder platform to see how it might be used to improve the educational experiences at FSE. People are doing some really neat stuff: simulators, course and assignment assistants, dynamic assignment creators, and scenario generators.

Interdepartmental Collaboration Across ASU:
Partner with the Global ID group and Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College faculty and instructional design teams to share AI development approaches, co-develop reusable AI tools, and establish shared resource networks to support university-wide innovation.

Learning Design

New Online Computer Science Capstone Courses
Just launched a new online capstone course sequence with Professor Helen Chavez. We used the AGILE/SCRUM framework to design a multi-semester group project where upper level CS students worked with community sponsors to develop authentic products that are shown off at an end of the year showcase.

Online Construction Management Program Development
I am currently leading the development of the Online Construction Management Program, set to launch in Fall 2025. We are ultimately going to develop over 20 courses for this program. The program will provide students across the country with the opportunity to be part of the prestigious Del E. Webb School of Construction.
